Bishop Celebrates Livestream Mass to Begin Day of Rosary Prayer Sept. 8

Bishop Alfred Schlert invited the faithful of the Diocese to pray the Rosary on Tuesday, September 8, asking the Blessed Mother’s intercession in ending the Coronavirus Pandemic and for peace in our nation.

The day began at 8 a.m. with a special livestream Mass celebrated by Bishop Schlert from his private chapel, followed by the Bishop leading the Rosary.

September 8 was the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary -- the Blessed Mother’s birthday.

A number of other special in-person and on-line events were planned, providing many opportunities for the faithful of all ages to pray along during this unique day-long devotion:

  • 11 a.m. – Kutztown University: The Rosary will be prayed outside the St. Christopher Catholic Newman Center at Kutztown University at 15207 Kutztown Road.
  • 2:15 p.m. – Bilingual Rosary Online: Prayer of the Holy Rosary and Chaplet of Divine Mercy, takes place every Tuesday, led by Sr. Martha Zammatore. Zoom ID/Password: 864 656 6119.
  • Rezo del Santo Rosario Virtual y La Coronilla de la Divina Misericordia Bilingüe Cada Martes a las 2:15 p.m. con la Hna. Martha Zammatore -- 864 656 6119
  • 6:30p.m. – Rosary Hike at Trexler Nature Preserve, sponsored by the Young Adult Ministry, followed by Holy Hour at St. Joseph the Worker parish, Orefield. Arrive at 6:30p.m. at the preserve, at 4935 Orchard Road, Schnecksville, PA 18078. The hike will conclude by 7:30 p.m. and the Holy Hour begins at 7:45p.m.
  • 7:00 p.m. – Rosary Livestream with Five School Principals: Join Kathy Napolitano, Sacred Heart West Reading; Diana Kile, St. Ann School, Emmaus; Sister Maria Luz, Immaculate Conception School; Susan Parker, Good Shepherd Catholic School; and Fr. Allen Hoffa, Marian Catholic High School, for this event sponsored by the Office of Education.
  • 7:00 p.m. – Rosary for Fathers: The Commission for Men will hold a Rosary event for fathers on Zoom. To join the meeting go to this link: Meeting ID: 962 8194 6182.
  • 7:30 p.m. – Lafayette College: The Rosary will be prayed by the Lafayette College Newman Catholic Council at the conclusion of their meeting at 8:00pm. (This event is not open to the public.)
