St. Anne School Students Welcome Former NASA Astronaut

St. Anne School, Bethlehem hosted former NASA Astronaut Terry Hart Nov. 7 for a presentation to the students in keeping with the school’s year-long “Space Exploration” theme.

Each year the school selects an annual theme to promote a sense of community, fun, enrichment to the school curriculum and as a kick-off to early re-registration activities.

“Our annual theme engages the students in a common interest with fun activities, and supports the annual re-registration space race with contests and class prizes,” said Principal Karen Bentz.

“Most important, our faculty creates dynamic curriculum projects and programs using the annual theme. This year we have a St. Anne School rocket display on our first floor, and the school is decorated using Space Exploration themes. St. Anne School was thrilled to welcome Terry Hart to our school.”

He presented a fascinating first-hand look, including video from inside his own Space Shuttle mission, space flight in general, the history of aviation and the future of the U.S. Space Program.

Hart is a former NASA astronaut, U.S. Air Force fighter pilot and was aboard the STS 41-C Challenger, NASA's 11th Space Shuttle mission, launched from Kennedy Space Center on April 6, 1984.

The Challenger crew were the first astronauts to repair a satellite from the shuttle. Hart is now on the faculty of Lehigh University, Bethlehem in the Department of Mechanical Engineering and Mechanics.
