Catholic Charities Food Drive April 17 to Benefit Soup Kitchen

Catholic Charities will hold a food drive for the Chew Street Soup Kitchen Saturday, April 17 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the kitchen, 179 Chew St., Allentown.

Donors can drive up to the building and drop off without leaving their cars. Some parishes are also offering drop-off through their outreach ministries. Consult your parish bulletin or contact the parish office.

Items needed are: apple sauce cans, boxed potatoes, canned beans (baked, black, kidney, northern, 15 oz.), canned chicken and tuna, canned fruit, canned veggies, cereal, Chef Boyardee (18 oz.), canned soup/broth, granola/cereal bars, Hamburger Helper, jelly (18 oz. plastic), mac and cheese, oatmeal packets, pancake mix (32 oz.) and syrup (24 oz.), peanut butter (16 oz.), pudding cups, ramen chicken, bags of rice (1 lb.), tomato/spaghetti sauce, pasta, rice and pasta sides, small boxes of raisins, Stove Top stuffing, canned tomatoes, diapers (baby and adult), feminine products, shampoo, soap, toilet paper, coat/jacket donations, and blankets/sweatshirts.

Catholic Charities provides compassionate human services with respect for the sanctity of all human life. Its mission is to serve the community, especially families with low income facing economic disadvantages. These families will otherwise go hungry.

Catholic Charities works for the community with respect and compassion, in an effort to bring hope, love and relief to all its guests. Among the programs it runs for the community are:

Grab and Go Hot Meals: Serving 800 to 1,000 hot healthy meals per month.

Keep Warm: Distributing jackets, blankets, gloves, scarves, socks, hoodies, sweaters, and special heated blankets and tents for individuals.

Senior Box Saturday: Providing 100 to 150 boxes of food for older adults the last Saturday of every month.
