Bishop Thanks Priests, Donors, Sponsors of Cooks With Collars

In anticipation of next week’s recognition of the Diocese of Allentown’s “Top Chef,” Bishop Alfred Schlert issued a special ‘thank you’ this week to the priests, donors, and sponsors who have made the first year of Cooks With Collars such a sizzling success.

What started as a friendly cooking competition among priests has turned into a major source of much-needed funds for parishes and for Catholic Charities, the Bishop noted, to help sustain the mission of the Catholic Church in the five counties of our Diocese.

“To see the tremendous outpouring of support and joy on behalf of our priests has been a tremendous gift,” Bishop Schlert said.

“It’s also extremely gratifying to see the amount of money that has been raised, thanks to contributions of parishioners and sponsors, to advance the good works that are much-needed in our communities.”

So far, Cooks With Collars has brought in more than $102,000 for the participating parishes. Additional sponsorship revenue of about $62,000 has gone to Catholic Charities to help them replace the lost income from having to cancel this year’s fundraising gala.

The website www.CooksWithCollars.com features cooking videos made by priests from 27 parishes, along with seminarians, religious sisters, and parish volunteers. They’re creative, funny, informative, and mouth watering.

The idea of Cooks With Collars is that people view the videos and “vote” for their favorites by following the website prompts to donate $10 or more to that parish.

There still is time to go to the website and vote. Cooks With Collars ends at midnight Feb. 15, and winners will be announced on Fastnacht Day, Feb. 16.

Sponsors of Cooks With Collars include: Anthony & Evelyn Carfagno; Baker Tilly; Bennett Automotive Group; Design IP; Ford Law Office; Iron Valley Real Estate of the Lehigh Valley; Jane & Von George; Ray & Teri Bishop; RLB Accountants; St. Luke’s University Health Network; The Law Offices of Mosebach, Fund, Dayton & Duckworth; The Topper Foundation; Yocco's; and Zator Law.
