Sacred Heart School, Allentown, Damaged By Fire

A three-alarm fire that broke out overnight has damaged Sacred Heart Elementary School in Allentown. The fire started on the third floor of the 115-year-old building and spread to the roof. The lower floors suffered smoke and water damage.

Firefighters from the Allentown Fire Department and several neighboring departments extinguished the fire and prevented it from spreading. One firefighter suffered a minor leg injury but no one else was injured.

The school has 203 students and 19 teachers. Principal James Krupka was at the scene. Bishop Alfred Schlert was there as well.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A restoration company is at the scene to determine next steps.

"The Diocese is actively looking for alternative locations in the event the building is not restored in time for school to open in the fall," said Mr. Krupka.
