Five Faith Friday

Here is this week's installment of "Five Faith Friday" which contains five, faith-based things I found interesting and am sharing on Friday.

Which Prayer I'm Praying --

The Jesus Prayer. My sister got me this prayer rope that I have had on my wish list for a while now. You don't need a prayer rope, but it's like having a physical rosary when reciting the prayers of the rosary... it helps! The Jesus Prayer (and prayer rope) are significantly more common in the Eastern Church (of Catholicism) as well as with our Orthodox brothers and sisters, but there is no reason why we cannot pray it as well. "Lord Jesus Christ, son of God, have mercy on me a sinner."

Which New Podcast I Found --

The Poco a Poco Podcast. I first found these guys on Ascension Presents YouTube channel and since finding their podcast, I've been hooked! "Join Fr. Innocent, Fr. Angelus and Fr. Mark-Mary, members of the Franciscan Friars of the Renewal, for their weekly podcast. The Poco a Poco Podcast offers "Practical Spirituality." The friars break open the Gospel in light of their years of prayer, communal life, and work with the poor. The Poco A Poco Podcast is a source of rest, encouragement, refreshment, and renewal for all pilgrims helping them to discern and make the next best step. Poco a Poco, little by little, step by step we're making our pilgrimage to the Father's house."

What I'm Watching --

Jonah by the crew at Sight and Sound out of Lancaster, PA. If you have never been to Sight and Sound then you need to add it to your bucket list. The trailer for the show looks absolutely spectacular and if it is like any of the other broadway-like shows they put on, you won't be disappointed. It is being shown online for free this weekend only so make sure to check it out!

Who I'm Praying For --

Our seminarians and our priests. The seminarians at St. Charles went back to campus earlier this week so I invite you to join me in praying for their discernment. And our priests! There is one particular Jesuit priest that shall remain nameless who I really struggle with. I'm trying to do a better job of praying for him (and all priests) vs. criticizing him. This quote by St. Teresa of Avila really hit me hard: "Behind each priest, there is a demon fighting for his fall. If we have the language to criticize them, we must have twice as much to pray for them." Amen.

Which Fact I Enjoyed Learning --

That out of 195 countries (193 member states of the United Nations and 2 observer states, the Holy See and Palestine), there is only one named after Jesus Christ. Know which one it is? El Salvador! We all know that there are many Catholic-named places of the world but I didn't realize we had a country named after Jesus!

Have a wonderful weekend and may God bless you and your family!
